18 Days Rwanda and Uganda Safari

Next, travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to more mountain gorillas than anywhere else in the world. Hike through the dense forest in search of these magnificent apes, an experience sure to be one of the most profound natural history encounters imaginable. Later, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, renowned for its diverse wildlife and breathtaking scenery. Look for unusual tree-climbing lions, enjoy game drives spotting an array of animals, and take a scenic boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. Fully immerse yourself in Queen Elizabeth National Park for a full day. Visit several crater lakes, search for wildlife throughout varied landscapes, and connect with communities inside and outside the park. Day 1: Arrival at Kigali Airport

Upon your arrival at Kigali Airport, your guide will be waiting for you to transfer you to your hotel which is located near the Volcanoes National Park.

However, please note that if your flight is scheduled to arrive after 14:00 hrs, it will not be possible to drive to Volcanoes National Park on the same day. In such a case, we will arrange a hotel in Kigali for you before your trip.

Day 2: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park

Gorilla tracking!!! Early morning departure with your ranger to search for one of the mountain gorillas, the world’s most interesting and endangered animals. You will spend one hour with one of our closest relatives in the wild. An experience you will never forget.

Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking Or Hike to Karisoke

Today, you have the option to do any of the following activities: take a nature walk in the national park, visit the golden monkeys, climb a volcano, or pay a visit to Diane Fossey’s grave.

Day 4: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The route takes you through the Cyanika border and Kisoro on winding roads that offer stunning views of lush greenery and various species of Albertine rift birds. As you proceed, you will come across terraced rolling hills covered with cultivated fields, forests, and breathtaking scenery, earning the area the nickname “The Switzerland of Africa.” Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a World Heritage Site, is known to have the highest number of mountain gorillas, making it a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, and our packed lunch, we then take a short drive to the park headquarters for briefing where we meet the excellent local guides and trackers who give a talk on the etiquette of gorilla trekking. We then trek into the forest to a spot where gorillas were last seen the previous night and track from there. Trekking may take anything between 1 to 6 hours depending on the family and altitudes which is more than 7500 feet. The terrain is rough and muddy calling for physical fitness. Although the hike is physically demanding, the beauty of the forest and surrounding scenery makes the trekking worthwhile. Once the Great Apes (Gorillas are located all fatigue is forgotten as the experience is often described as being the most profound natural history experience in the world). It is recommended that you take plenty of water with you on the trek. Non-flash cameras and plenty of fast-speed films are recommended. Being a tropical rain forest, it may rain at no notice, hence need to bring with you waterproof clothing, including zip-lock bags for cameras and film. Others to come with include sturdy hiking boots, long pants, gloves and a raincoat. Maximum time spent with the gorillas is 1 hour.

Day 6: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, embark on a leisurely drive to the spectacular Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its diverse wildlife and picturesque landscapes.

As you traverse the park, keep a keen eye out for its unique tree-climbing lions, often found resting in the branches of large fig trees – a remarkable sight exclusive to this region.

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Wake up to the sounds of the savanna and set off on an early morning game drive. Look for elephants playfully mud-bathing, buffaloes grazing, elegant leopards draped over tree branches, and numerous antelope species roaming the grasslands.

In the afternoon, embark on a scenic boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, one of the most wildlife-rich waterways in Africa with the highest concentration of hippos in the world. Admire hippos frolicking in the water, lazy crocodiles basking in the sun, and an array of stunning bird species.

Day 8: Full Day Game Drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Visit the Kyambura Gorge

Spend this day exploring Queen Elizabeth National Park at your own pace. Visit several crater lakes, search for wildlife, and visit the communities in and around the park. Visit the Kyambura Gorge and other beautiful gems in the park.

Day 9: Drive to Kibale National Park

This day after breakfast, continue your journey to Kibale National Park, known as the “Primate Capital of the World,” home to an incredible diversity of primate species.

You may go on a community walk in the afternoon or stay at the lodge relaxing.

Day 10: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park

After breakfast, proceed for Chimpanzee tracking. The exciting activity begins in the morning and may take a whole day or a few hours. Briefing is done by the UWA park rangers at the park headquarters. Besides being human’s close cousins, the chimpanzees, Kibale National Park hosts other primates such as red colobus, L’hoest, black-and-white colobus, red-tailed monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabey among others. The swamp walk at Bigodi wetland is an optional activity in the afternoon.

Day 11: Drive from Kibale National Park to Murchison Falls National Park

Depart Kibale National Park and enjoy a scenic drive to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s oldest and largest protected area. Witness the landscape transforming from lush forests to expansive savannas.

Accommodation: Sambiya River Lodge / Paraa Safari Lodge / Nile Safari Lodge / Red Chilli Camp.

Day 12: Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, drive to the northern sector of the park for game drives. Most of the game is found in the area north of Victoria Nile and East of the Albert Nile and Lake Albert (where the movie “The African Queen” was filmed). The likely game to be encountered during our drive are Elephants, Buffalos, Rothschild giraffe, Oribi, waterbuck, hartebeest, bushbuck, leopard, lion, bush pigs, mongoose, warthog, jackal, genet, hyenas, bat-eared fox, sitatunga and Uganda Kob. In the afternoon, take a launch boat to the base of the falls viewing game and birds en route. We enjoy the 3-hour ride past several hippo schools and Nile crocodiles plus aquatic birds.

Day 13: Rhino Tracking in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only protected area in Uganda where visitors can see the rhinos. Afterwards, drive back to Murchison Falls and visit the breathtaking top of Murchison Falls, marvelling at the sheer power of the Nile River, as it explodes through a narrow gorge before cascading down into the ‘Devil’s Cauldron’.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 14 – 16: Drive to Kidepo Valley National Park and Have 2 Full Days Exploring the park!

Drive from Murchison Falls National Park to Kidepo Valley National Park via Gulu town. Kidepo Valley National Park is one of best Uganda’s protected areas where wildlife lives in plenty. It is nicknamed as “the True African Wilderness”.

Enjoy the game drives viewing wildlife such as zebra, elephants, giraffes, buffalos, lions, and leopards among others.

Visit the Karamojong Community and learn about their culture and way of life.

Day 17: Drive to Kampala/Entebbe

After breakfast, we embark on a long drive from Kidepo Valley National Park to Kampala or Entebbe. Arrive at the lodge at the perfect time for dinner and overnight.

Day 18: Departure

Transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your outbound flight.
